WYRA has Top 10 Finishes at Main Line Slide Indoor Erg Race

WYRA rowers competed at the Main Line Slide Philadelphia Indoor Rowing Championships this past weekend, and they had an excellent day of racing. Almost every rower either matched or bested their “personal record” as they raced against other local athletes in a 2,000 meter erg piece.  Sophia Clark and Charles Hummel both finished in the top 10 rowers for their event, with Hannah Sholes, Hannah Fisher, Kathleen Scopis, Chloe Gallo and Amanda Aiello all finishing in the top half.  8th Grader Zach Heffernan raced up in the Freshman Men’s category and had a strong piece dropping 7 seconds off of his previous best.  We can’t wait to see what he will do in the same category next year.  Junior Rory Gold dropped an impressive 8 seconds from his previous test.  It’s exciting to see WYRA rowers making such big improvements so early in the Spring season, and we can’t wait to get on the water in 3 short weeks!

“Every WYRA athlete that raced this weekend rowed their piece aggressively, but most importantly, smartly.  Seeing such mental toughness during a race such as this really shows a lot about our team and training philosophy,” Men’s Coach, Greg Yurkow.
