WYRA's Spring Competitive Program

WYRA Competitive Crew is a multi-season program designed for teens ages 13-18. Rowers train at the WYRA boathouse 5-6 days with an emphasis on competing at races throughout the Northeast.  Coaches with World Championship racing experience work with WYRA rowers in a variety of ways both on and off the water.  WYRA is home to the only set of indoor rowing tanks in the state of Delaware making training throughout the year possible.

Rowing is a sport in which not only athletic ability and fitness are important, but so is teamwork and determination.  Each athlete is coached on self-discipline, teamwork and goal setting/achievement.  WYRA rowers come from over 20 different area high schools and have rowed at over 80 different prestigious colleges.

During the racing season, WYRA travels throughout the Eastern Seaboard to a variety of races. As a WYRA athlete, you will be going to cities such as Boston, Princeton, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

Spring Season: March-Mid May; Varsity practice Monday-Friday 3:30-6, Saturday 8:30-11am.  Novice practice Tuesday-Friday 3:30-6pm, Saturday 8:30-11am.

The spring racing format differs from the fall.  In the spring, athletes will be racing not
against the clock as with the fall, but rather lining up next to other crews in a 2000 meter sprint style race.  Once athletes hit the water, coaches will work on the fundamentals established the previous season to create boats in various categories which possess the best possible chance for success.

Be sure to check the calendar for the complete race schedule.
