Assistant Rowing Coach - Wilmington Youth Rowing Association (WYRA)

WYRA is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and motivated Seasonal Assistant Rowing Coach to join our coaching staff for the Fall 2026 season. This is an excellent opportunity for former rowers, collegiate athletes, or individuals looking to begin a coaching career while making a meaningful impact on young athletes.


Season Schedule ( Flexible):

August 31 – November 8, 2026

Monday – Friday: 4:00PM – 6:15 PM

Saturday: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM


Responsibilities

  • Provide technical instruction and individualized feedback during on-water practices.
  • Assist in planning and leading daily practices alongside the Head Coach.
  • Supervise and coach indoor workouts when weather or training plans require.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes at practices and team activities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, sportsmanship, and integrity.
  • Follow all WYRA coaching standards, policies, and U.S. Center for SafeSport requirements.
  • Help prepare equipment and maintain an organized and safe training environment.


Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of rowing technique and the sport of rowing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with middle and high school athletes.
  • Dependable, energetic, and eager to learn.
  • Commitment to athlete safety and a positive learning environment.
  • Willingness to learn WYRA coaching philosophy and athlete development protocols.


Preferred Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who are excited to grow as coaches and inspire the next generation of rowers. The following qualifications are preferred but not required

  • Previous rowing, racing, or coaching experience.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
  • Valid Boater Safety Certificate/License (or willingness to obtain).
  • Passion for mentoring youth athletes and helping them develop confidence, teamwork, and technical skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a desire to continue learning as a coach.
